Therapy Dogs
An informative discussion and demo about what they do

Monday, April 7th at 7pm
Trainers Academy, LLC in Troy

Have you ever seen a dog walking the halls of a hospital?  Or a dog sitting in the corner of a library engrossed in a story being read by a child?  Well this seminar will tell you about the special work these dogs are doing.

In this seminar, Liz Buchheister will explain the Therapy Dog concept and the benefits provided by the Therapy Dogs.   We will explain what it takes to become a Therapy Team.  Lucy, a current TDI dog, will be on hand to demonstrate some of the elements of the Therapy Dog evaluation.  We will also discuss the wonderful volunteer activities that involve Therapy Dogs, such as reading programs, senior visits, and hospitals.  We can provide information how you and your dog can become a Therapy Team.

Lucy is certified through Therapy Dogs International.  She is a wonderful Newfoundland.  She will be happy to show you how they do their special therapy work.

Your dog really wants you to come, but PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT THE SEMINAR.

Additional Info on Therapy Dogs:

The primary objective of the TD dog and handler is to provide comfort and companionship by sharing the dog with the patients in hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions and wherever else the Therapy Dog is needed. This is done in a way that increases emotional well being, promotes healing, and improves the quality of life for the people being visited and the staff that cares for these people.

Canine membership includes both purebred dogs and mixed breed dogs. All dogs are tested and evaluated for Therapy Dog work by Certified Evaluators. While many dogs provide love and companionship in the home, not all dogs are qualified or have the temperament suited to be a Therapy Dog.

The dogs bring sparkle to a sterile day, provide a lively subject for conversation, and rekindle old memories of previously owned pets. TD Dogs come in all shapes and sizes; real dogs with real personalities and real love to share. Some have pedigrees, some have been adopted. All are very proud to wear their TD tags. The volunteers in the program and the dogs who visit with those in care facilities do make a difference in the quality of life. Real therapy is provided between animals and people.
